Inside Bishop Museum, 23 million "stories" are told to give you both wisdom and knowledge. We are a museum of ancient and modern history, of flora and fauna and scientific investigation. We are the Museum of the Pacific.
- Among our collections are 1.2 million Pacific and Hawaiian cultural objects, 14 million insect specimens, 6 million shells, 500,000 plant specimens, 700,000 zoological specimens, 100,000 library volumes and 1 million historic photographs, maps, oral histories and other archival materials.
- These 23 million "treasures" trace Hawai‘i 's roots across Polynesia; help us understand Hawai‘i 's island universe from the stars above to ocean depths below; and expand our knowledge of the past, easing Hawai‘i 's passage into the 21st Century.
- Because we live in a global community, our scientific investigations impact the world. The knowledge open to you today also enlightens 4 billion people around the globe. And you can see it all up close, first-hand.
