Portrait of Kamehameha I

(19k)

Photography didn't exist at the time of King Kamehameha I. So, how do we know what he looked like? In 1817, the artist Louis Choris created this treasured portrait as the king posed for him. It's one of only two known portraits of him made from life. Many have copied the Choris original.
