Flag Quilt

(29k)

Remember the Monarchy

In 1894, after Hawai‘i became a Republic and the American flag replaced Hawai‘i 's flag, Hawaiians remembered the monarchy by making Hawaiian flag quilts. Hawaiians often stitched in the phrase Ku`u Hae Aloha, My Beloved Flag, or Ku`u Hae Hawai‘i , My Dear Hawaiian Flag.

Made around 1918 by Wilhemina Eichinger and Mrs. Enos of Maui.
Gift: J. Stanley Eichinger and Charles Robert Eichinger, 1984.
