Kamehameha Family pahu, shark skin drum

Bishop Museum's oldest pahu hula, dance drum. Made of coconut wood and shark skin lashed to the carved base with olona, this drum has a shark tooth embedded in its rim. It was played with other pahu hula to accompany dance.

Gift: Provisional Government, 1893
