Bishop Museum Native Hawaiian Culture and Arts Program

Bishop Museum Native Hawaiian Culture and Arts Program (NHCAP) was established in 1987. Its mission is to use traditional culture and values to promote the well-being of kanaka maoli (ethnic Hawaiians), enhance cultural awareness and ethnic pride, and perpetuate a foundation for personal and cultural survival of kanaka maoli. The program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service.

Hawai`iloa the wa`a kaulua (voyaging canoe) and Mauloa the wa`a kaukahi (coastal canoe) are projects of NHCAP in cooperation with the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS).
