The Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center In the News

The Bishop Museum’s Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center is a gathering place for island residents and visitors to discover the natural wonders of Hawai‘i and the world through science exploration. Science Adventure CenterThe Center offers Hawai‘i its newest “wow” experience. This 16,500 square-foot facility adds a new dimension to the Museum by providing exhibits that are immersive and interactive – with a strong emphasis on better understanding Hawai‘i’s environment.

Visitors become active participants in exploring areas of science in which Hawai‘i has gained international recognition for cutting edge research – including volcanology, oceanography, and biodiversity. Science Adventure CenterAs the visitors enter the new facility from the Great Lawn, it is readily apparent that the experience will do more than merely entertain; it also engages, informs and excites.

Whether they proceed down the “Hawaiian Origins Tunnel” to the Deep Ocean zone, stop and participate in the lab activities in the Living Islands zone, explore the interior of the walkthrough volcano (the facility’s signature exhibit), or climb up to the tree house to get a bird’s-eye view of the volcano’s erupting caldera— everywhere they turn they find unique and intriguing things to see and do.

The Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center is a “must see” gallery for the people of Hawai‘i and visitors to our islands, providing unprecedented opportunities to understand and appreciate the natural heritage that makes Hawai‘i so special.
