Bishop Museum Works Toward a Greener Future
Together with Coca Cola, Bishop Museum is working to turn our 100+ year old “brown” facility into a “green” facility, and we are asking for your help to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever you are visiting our campus!
Bishop Museum was recently awarded 6 recycling bins through the Coca Cola Company’s National Recycling Coalition Bin Grant Program. You can find these bins located throughout our 13 acre campus – especially near lunch tables and benches, and entrances to our exhibit halls. Each recycle bin is placed next to a regular trash bin, making it even easier for our visitors to remember to recycle. All recycleables are collected daily and taken to the Reynolds Recycling Center in Halawa.
While we work with outside agencies to develop a our sustainability plan, you might notice that we have already taken some proactive measures: we recently implemented the use of biodegradable plates and cutlery for campus functions and public events, and we’ve provided staff with more recycling options for numerous items, including paper, cardboard, and “techno-trash.”
With nearly 1,000 people visiting the Museum each day, we hope that our collective recycling efforts can help make a difference. So next time you visit, keep your eyes open for our new Coca Cola recycling bins, and make the choice to recycle. Mahalo for your support!
