2009 Astronomy Highlights
Hawai‘i Sky Events 2009 - This overview provides information on the marking of the Makahiki or Hawaiian New Year, which is determined by a combination of the sunset rising of the Pleiades star cluster and the appearance of the Hilo Moon (first visible sliver of a moon after the new moon) that follows that sunset rising of the Pleiades.
