We need your support
A new day is breaking over Ka‘iwi‘ula as the Museum proudly shifts gears under our new strategic plan, with which we envision a world where all people understand and appreciate Hawai‘i’s cultural heritage and natural history, and use that knowledge to inspire the future.
We’ve made tremendous strides this year - the installation of photovoltaic panels that have dramatically improved the sustainability of our campus, imaging scientific specimens for online access at a brisk rate of 3,000 images per month, and the opening of six outstanding exhibitions, including a landmark traveling exhibition of Polynesian artifacts that toured China honoring the story of Polynesia’s Austronesian ancestral roots. But there is still more work to be done.
Your donation will make a big impact
Your contribution to our 2012 Annual Fund will help to preserve and share Hawai’i’s rich heritage and a vast collections of 25 million cultural and natural artifacts, and will enable us create new opportunities for learning and engagement through our exhibits and educational programs. Your gift will:
- conserve and restore cultural treasures like Princess Bernice Pauahi’s beautiful patchwork quilt, and to rotate our displays of fragile and rarely seen cultural artifacts inside Hawaiian Hall’s treasure cases
- help us to provide engaging new exhibits for our community, such as the widely-praised Sesame Street exhibit, which focuses on health and science education for children
- fund vital educational programs and teacher enrichment opportunities to serve over 40,000 students annually
- expand our volunteer programs to engage diverse audiences, including students, seniors, and the Native Hawaiian community, to be the authentic voice for our historic artifacts and scientific specimens, and to bring energy and life to the visitor experience
- further our pioneering research, including surveys of the elusive Wekiu bug of the summits of Mauna Kea and rapid ecological assessment of corals in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument
