Ho'okipa Ambassador - Part Time - Amy Greenwell Garden, Hawai‘i Island
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As an ambassador of Amy Greenwell Garden and the first point of contact to visitors, this position is responsible for creating an experience unique to the world and delivering outstanding customer service by sharing the “aloha spirit” with all visitors through Amy Greenwell Garden retail and admissions environment. In addition, this position is also responsible for the efficient expedition of all Guest transactions as well as ensuring Guest satisfaction and proper control of all sales receipts and merchandise in the retail and admissions environment.
MAJOR DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fill in for full time AGG Ho‘okipa Ambassador on weekends and when the full time ambassador is absent.
- Ensure that each Guest receives outstanding Guest Service by creating a friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every Guest, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of Guest Service.
- Educate Guests on the museum and Garden history, membership programs, Garden layout, restroom locations and the location of other amenities, and applicable policies.
- Accurately and expeditiously answer Guest’s merchandise questions, such as the location, price, and use of merchandise. Direct or obtain the merchandise requested by Guest or receive merchandise selected by Guest.
- Process payments from customers for merchandise, admissions and memberships using the Point of Sale and manual systems, ensuring proper cash handling procedures are followed. This includes, but is not limited to, calculating sales discounts, totaling price and tax on, accepting payment and making change, and wrapping or packaging merchandise for customers.
- Field and assist in the process of customer service and sales via phone inquiries and orders per established procedures.
- Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean and orderly appearance in Guest areas, including dusting and cleaning product and shelves.
- General merchandise receiving, pricing and stocking. This includes, but is no limited to, stocking shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise; setting up advertising displays or arranging merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales; and adjusting price tags on merchandise as instructed.
- Understand and comply with all Company policies, procedures and practices. And perform tasks in a safe manner.
- Assist supervisor with opening and closing of retail and admissions locations to ensure that all required tasks are completed.
- Assist with the accurate maintaining of sales and merchandise records and performing inventory of merchandise as necessary.
- Other task, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 1 year prior experience in a retail environment
EDUCATION:
- High school graduate, or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Must be able to work flexible days and hours. Must be able to work weekends and be available on some weekdays.
- Ability to process information and merchandise through computer point of sale and manual systems.
- Ability to understand, retain, and effectively communicate information about the Museum’s history, grounds, exhibits, merchandise, events, and policies to team members and visiting Guests in a polite and professional manner with the “aloha spirit” under stressful conditions.
- Ability to work with minimum amount of supervision.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-through until completed.
- Ability to read, count and write to accurately and efficiently complete all documentation.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to applicable situations.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently operate and use all equipment necessary to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate an outgoing and fun personality.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic by taking the initiative to identify departmental needs and assisting with or taking ownership of correcting or implementing steps to remedy or improve the work environment, process, Guest experience, etc.
PREFERENCES:
- Knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history.
- Hawaiian and Japanese language proficiency.
