Responsible for the coordination and delivery of daytime and evening programs to Japanese and other “eastbound” tour groups.
- Work with tour operators to schedule and accommodate tour groups. Maintain tour records.
- Provide programs to eastbound customers on topics ranging from hula to volcanoes, for both daytime and evening programs. Some of the programs are presented in a team situation with an English-speaking presenter; other programs are presented solo.
- Prepare materials for each tour, including setting up luncheons as needed.
- Lead groups and “free independent” travels on tours of Bishop Museum exhibit halls. Provide information about Hawaii and Bishop Museum.
- Provide clerical support for programming, including copying, stuffing envelopes, making labels. Provide other daily operational assistance as needed.
- Cover evening astronomy programs, which include operating planetarium equipment, welcoming visitors, providing astronomy interpretation in planetarium, viewing deck, and observatory.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, state or federal agencies, members of the business community.
- Employee is requested to maintain a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner with all visitors and customers at all times.
- Knowledgeable of sound systems, slide and video projectors and other audiovisual equipment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree, and/or four years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Bilingual: Japanese and English communication skills
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer literate (word and excel are required)
